Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born on 28 May 1883 in Nashik, Maharashtra. Savarkar was born in a Chitpavan Brahmin family in Maharashtra.

New Delhi: Today is the 138th birth anniversary of Indian freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. On this occasion, many leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have paid tribute to him. PM Modi said that I salute Savarkar on his birth anniversary. At the same time, Shiv Sena national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said that in his tweet, Savarkar has been called Bharat Ratna.

At the same time, the BJP tweeted, “Salutations on the birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the heroic son of Maa Bharati, a powerful nationalist leader, a powerful orator and devoted social reformer.”

Born on 28 May 1883 in a Chitpavan Brahmin family in Maharashtra, Savarkar was a revolutionary from the beginning. In 1911, the British sentenced Savarkar to black water on the charge of killing the Nashik collector.

The first major movement for India’s independence took place in 1857. The credit for registering this movement as India’s first freedom struggle goes to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Who wrote a book in 1909. Its name was ‘The Indian War of Independence-1857’. The same book declared the battle of 1857 as India’s first freedom struggle. This was Savarkar’s first major work, which was accepted in independent India.
