Raid on Twitter

On May 18, BJP chief spokesperson Sambit Patra and BJP general secretary BL Santosh tweeted two different screenshots of four pages each. One screenshot was about the Corona and the other about the Central Vista project. The duo had claimed that the toolkit belonged to the Congress. He also alleged in a tweet that the toolkit was created to discredit the Modi government during the Corona era.

Sambit Patra alleged that in the toolkit, the Congress had asked the workers to use words like ‘Super Spreader Aquarius’ and mutant ‘Modi Strain’ to defame the Modi government.

Sambit Patra’s tweet was later described by Twitter as a manipulated media. The central government also expressed displeasure over Twitter’s stance. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has asked the manipulated media to remove the tag from the tweet, as the matter is under investigation. After Twitter took the step, Congress leaders lodged a complaint against the BJP at the Tughlaq Road police station, after which the case was transferred to the Delhi Police Special Cell.

On Monday, a special cell of the Delhi Police issued a notice to Twitter India. The notice questioned whether there was any evidence that the tweet of Sambit Patra was manipulated by Twitter India. Twitter India later responded to the Delhi Police Special Cell saying it was not committed to providing information. After this, the Delhi Police raided the office of Twitter India.

Delhi Police has reacted to the matter. As a regular procedure, we went to Twitter’s office to give notice. This was necessary because we wanted to know who the right person was, as the answer given by the MD of Twitter India was vague, said the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
