Muharram 2021: According to the Hijri calendar, Muharram is the first month of the Islamic year. After the moon on the evening of last August 9, 1443 Hijri has started. Muharram is considered the month of grief in Islam. Because in the same month, a battle was fought between Yazid and Imam Hussein in a place called Karbala in Iraq. In the battle of Karbala, 72 comrades, including Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, were martyred. Imam Hussain was martyred on Ashura in the month of Muharram, which falls on August 19 according to the Hijri calendar. Especially Shia Muslims remember those days by holding meetings in memory of Hussain.

Muharram 2021 and the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain

Hazrat Imam Hussain was the grandson of Prophet Mohammad Sahib of Islam. They sacrificed their families and friends to protect Islam and humanity. In remembrance of this martyrdom, Shia Muslims take out Tazia. This taziya is considered to be the symbol of those martyrs. A procession is taken out with this taziya and then he is symbolically buried. Like the tomb of Imam Hussein is still in Iraq today. That is why it is a month of grief for Muslims all over the world.

Moharram is celebrated on this day in many countries including Hindustan.
